Blog

(posted on 20 Oct 2024)

Well, with about 10 weeks left in the year, does it seem to you like the world is spinning faster all the time?  Either that or I'm slowing down (which may very well be the case!) And I find it harder to focus on fewer things which I actually have a chance of completing (like this blog, which has been on my list for 6 weeks now, as one example!)

It's time to get paintings matted and framed, documented and entered in galleries and shows, as well as get my calendars distributed (again, 2 sizes available), cards packaged, and of course I'm always wanting to create new work (much more fun than all the administrative chores!). I'm really loving so many forms of printmaking,  as well as the watercolour and ink work I practice regularly with Life Drawing and Plein Air.

I'm excited to say that I am now represented by the "Picture This" Gallery in Penticton--the owner (also an artist) wanted me to supply an assortment of my handmade prints--etchings, screenprinting,  cyanotypes, and collographs. Here's the display:

I also have cards and some matted original prints there. On November  23 the gallery will be one of the stops on the Penticton Art Walk, which is always a great event.

I will again be at the Coquitlam Christmas Craft Sale,  December 6-8, on Poirier Street in the Poirier Forum. It's always a great sale with lots of cool vendors, and I'll be in my usual place at the corner of 2 aisles. Hope to see you out, it's my only show in the Lower Rainland!

My work will also be in the Penticton Art Gallery under $500 Sale, in the Artisans of the Okanagan Giftshop in Summerland,  and in the Lightup the Arts Sale at the Summerland Community Arts Council. Another first for me is a one day Christmas Market at the KVR Railway Station in Summerland,  11-4 on Saturday November 30. Hope the weather is good because it's outside--although under cover. The Christmas trains will be running!

No wonder I feel busy!

We've had some great travels this year including Toronto, Montreal  and Quebec City in conjunction with a fairytale family wedding, a good fishing trip to Ucluelet, and a fabulous trip to Iceland and Norway. Beautiful countries and we even got up to the high Arctic islands of Svalbord (78 degrees North, only 12 degrees from the North Pole!) and saw a wild polar bear (along with many stuffed ones--you weren't allowed to leave the 2 towns we visited unless you had an armed escort!)

We saw puffins and a puffin toss in Iceland, as well as the volcanic lava eruption near the airport.

And life in Summerland is pretty great too. I'm happy with my studio, playing with my artist friends, having a bestie move to our neighborhood, and family close by (if not forever). While there has been a very sad patch of deaths and terminal cancer cases close to me I'm looking forward to the arrival of the first member of the next generation in April. A reminder that life does go on, with or without us.

This cyanotype is representative of my happy place, and a good way to end this blog. Hope to see you at one of the sales, and if you want any calendars, cards or paintings do let me know!
